BitPay Alternative for SMBs: Wallet Settlement vs Bank Fiat

If you are searching for a BitPay alternative as an SMB, you already know the shape of BitPay: licensed processor, daily fiat to a bank, Shopify, a 100-coin accept list.

The remaining question is not “is BitPay good?” For that job, it is.

Do you want crypto in, dollars out, someone else holds the license — or do you want hosted invoices that settle to wallets you control, and you will live without the bank?

Those are different jobs.

Quick answer: BitPay wins if you need daily fiat settlement, a compliance / money-transmitter wrapper, Shopify, Lightning, POS, or you are heading toward the $500k–$1M/month published bands. FinCobra Checkout is a BitPay alternative for SMBs only if you want funds in your BTC and documented USDT/USDC wallets at Free Start $1,000 then 0.5% PAYG — and you do not need the bank. It is not a licensed institution, not Shopify, not Lightning, and not “BitPay but 4× cheaper for the same outcome.”

This is a fit filter, not a “#1 BitPay alternative” listicle. Most pages ranking today either flatten BitPay to “~1%” or sell no-KYC. Neither is this comparison.

The split that actually matters

BitPay is a custodial fiat processor. The shopper pays a BitPay invoice at a locked rate. BitPay takes the coins, holds a ledger, deducts the processing fee, and batches a settlement every business day to your bank or to a wallet address on file. That is the product: you never have to hold crypto. Official business copy says so.

FinCobra Checkout is a hosted coordinator. Same surface idea — create an invoice, send the buyer to /pay/:id, verify an HMAC webhook — but settlement is your wallet. BTC via your xpub/ypub/zpub (unique address per invoice). USDT/USDC on documented chains. There is no FinCobra-held merchant balance to withdraw from, and there is no bank rail.

If “ACH landed, books are in USD, legal is happy” is the requirement, FinCobra is the wrong tool. If “no processor ledger, 0.5% after Free Start, I will treasury the coins” is the requirement, BitPay is the wrong tool — you would be buying their top published SMB rate for a bank product you are not using.

BitPay can also “settle in crypto.” Read their settlement docs before you treat that as wallet checkout. They forward a daily batch to an address on file, with minima (0.01 BTC, 200 USDC, …). That is still BitPay in the middle. It is not an invoice address derived from your xpub.

Official BitPay fees (2026-08-26)

This is the table on bitpay.com/pricing today. Do not flatten it to “~1%.”

Monthly Transaction AmountTransaction Fee
< $500,000 USD2% + 25¢*
$500,000 - $999,999 USD1.5% + 25¢*
≥ $1,000,000 USD1% + 25¢*

*Higher fees applicable for high-risk industries.

Rates move with cumulative monthly paid-invoice value, then reset on the first of each calendar month. The 25¢ is charged on every invoice regardless of tier. An SMB that is not in the $500k–$1M published bands is in the 2% + 25¢ row.

FinCobra is not in that table. After Free Start, it is a flat 0.5% of paid invoice volume, wallets only. That is not “BitPay but 4× cheaper for the same outcome.” BitPay’s 2% is the price of daily bank settlement, a ledger, and the license. FinCobra’s 0.5% is the price of hosted invoices to wallets you control.

Fiat minima, from BitPay’s own settlement docs

Daily fiat is a real BitPay product. It also has floors.

From the official settlement page:

SettlementMinimumTiming after BitPay issues it
USD ACH to a US bank20 USDTwo business days
USD wire to a bank outside the US10,000 USDWire
EUR SEPA (select countries)500 EUROne business day
GBP500 GBPTwo business days
CAD5,000 CADTwo business days
AUD2,500 AUDTwo business days
NZD2,500 NZDTwo business days
MXN1,500 MXNTwo business days
CHF500 CHFTwo business days
Gibraltar EUR2,000 EURTheir EUR rule

Crypto “settlement” is a daily forward to an address on file, not an invoice address from your xpub. Published floors include 0.01 BTC and 200 USDC (plus other asset floors on that same page). New York merchants may only settle in USD, BTC, BCH, ETH, or USDC.

FinCobra has no bank payout, no SEPA, no wire, and no BitPay-style daily batch. If a $20 ACH or a $10,000 offshore wire is the job, stay on BitPay.

Choose BitPay if

Choose BitPay if most of these are the actual job:

  • You need daily fiat to a bank. USD, EUR, GBP, or another published settlement currency, with their minima.
  • You need a compliance / money-transmitter wrapper. BitPay is licensed to engage in Virtual Currency Business Activity by NYDFS. FinCobra is not a licensed institution and is not MiCA.
  • You need Shopify. BitPay ships a native Shopify payment method. FinCobra does not.
  • You need Lightning. BitPay accepts Bitcoin over Lightning with no extra merchant setup. FinCobra has no Lightning.
  • You need POS / in-store. BitPay sells retail QR and terminal flows. FinCobra is hosted online invoices.
  • You are heading toward the $500k–$1M/month published bands, or you want the licensed processor even while you are still in the 2% + 25¢ SMB row.
  • You want BitPay to hold the ledger, convert, and pay out. You do not want to treasury BTC or USDT/USDC yourself.

If that is you, use BitPay.

Choose FinCobra if

Choose FinCobra Checkout only if most of these are true:

  • You want hosted invoices that settle to wallets you control. Invoice → /pay/:id → HMAC webhook → fulfill.
  • You will live on the documented rails only: Bitcoin via xpub/ypub/zpub; USDT and USDC on Ethereum; USDC on Arbitrum One and Base; USDT and USDC on Solana. Not any token. Not native ETH. Not Lightning.
  • Free Start $1,000 then 0.5% PAYG, billed monthly in arrears, is the fee model you want — and you are not comparing it to BitPay’s 2% as if both bought daily bank fiat.
  • You do not need the bank. No ACH. No SEPA. No wire. No processor ledger.
  • You are a technical merchant. API keys and webhook signatures are normal.
  • You accept that WooCommerce is a private pilot (v0.1.0, USD one-time, $99/yr at 0% or 0.5%). Not on WordPress.org. woo-demo.fincobra.com is a demo, not a public install.

FinCobra still hosts checkout, monitoring, and billing. If you want the license, the bank, Shopify, Lightning, or POS, that is BitPay, not us.

Shopify and Lightning (they have them; we do not)

Shopify: BitPay is a Shopify additional payment method. Their developer setup is search-for-BitPay, activate, finish. FinCobra has no Shopify. If the store is Shopify, stop here.

Lightning: BitPay accepts Lightning for Bitcoin. Merchants do not turn it on separately. FinCobra Checkout does not accept Lightning. If buyers pay in sats over Lightning, choose BitPay.

POS: BitPay has in-store QR and terminal flows with fiat settlement to a bank. FinCobra does not sell a retail POS.

Do not use any of those BitPay wins as a FinCobra talking point.

Fees, honestly

BitPay (official pricing, 2026-08-26): 2% + 25¢ under $500,000 monthly paid-invoice value. 1.5% + 25¢ from $500,000 to $999,999. 1% + 25¢ at $1,000,000 and above. High-risk industries pay more. The 25¢ is on every invoice. Network cost on the payer side is a separate BitPay line.

FinCobra Checkout: first $1,000 of paid invoice volume free, then 0.5% of paid volume, monthly arrears. Unpaid invoices do not count. You pay chain network fees on the settlement you configured. There is no conversion line because there is no conversion product. There is no ACH line because there is no bank settlement.

A $10,000 confirmed month after Free Start: FinCobra PAYG is $50, in crypto to your wallet. The same month on BitPay’s published SMB band is 2% + 25¢ per invoice — and you are buying daily fiat, a ledger, and the license. Do not call 0.5% “4× cheaper than BitPay” if the job is dollars in a bank. That job is theirs, at 2% + 25¢ until you reach their higher bands.

If you later sell FinCobra-settled crypto on an exchange, add that spread yourself.

WooCommerce, without the stretch

BitPay ships a public Woo path and a native Shopify app. Those are reasons to stay on BitPay if a cart plugin is the requirement.

FinCobra’s Woo plugin is a private pilot. USD catalog, one-time products, no Subscriptions, no advertised refunds, no public WordPress.org listing. If you need a production Woo or Shopify plugin this week, BitPay (or another public plugin) wins. If you want to see the pilot checkout, use the Woo demo — demo only.

What BitPay alternative pages usually skip

Most results for bitpay alternative flatten BitPay to “~1%,” skip the 25¢, skip the $500k / $1M tiers, or sell no-KYC as the whole pitch. That is not this comparison.

Four other skips:

  1. “BitPay settle-in-crypto = wallet checkout.” Their settlement docs are a daily forward from a BitPay ledger, with minima. It is not an xpub-derived invoice address.
  2. Fee tables that start at 1%. The published SMB row is 2% + 25¢. 1% is the ≥ $1M band.
  3. Shopify or Lightning as a FinCobra checkbox. They sell both. We sell neither.
  4. Licenses as our checkbox. BitPay holds NYDFS. FinCobra does not. If the money-transmitter wrapper is the requirement, stay on BitPay.

For the custody vocabulary, read what non-custodial checkout means. For the self-host fork, read BTCPay Server alternative. For the EU fiat-gateway fork, read CoinGate alternative.

How to decide in one pass

  1. Need daily fiat to a bank, a license / NYDFS wrapper, Shopify, Lightning, or POS? → BitPay. Stop.
  2. Heading toward the $500k–$1M/month published bands and you want that processor? → BitPay. Stop.
  3. Need EUR/USD/GBP in a bank with EU MiCA instead of BitPay’s wrapper? → CoinGate, not us.
  4. Need funds in your BTC / documented USDT/USDC wallets, hosted invoices, no processor ledger, no bank? → FinCobra is in the set.
  5. Want self-host, 0% software fee, Lightning, maximum Bitcoin control? → BTCPay Server, not a BitPay clone.

If you are in bucket 4 — wallet settlement, no bank, hosted invoices — book a live walkthrough and configure your own wallets (BTC xpub; USDT/USDC on the documented chains). Billing is Free Start $1,000 then 0.5% PAYG. If you specifically want a storefront preview of the Woo pilot, use the Woo demo.

Do not ask us to be BitPay with a lower fee and a bank. That is not the product.
