CoinGate Alternative: Wallet Settlement vs Fiat Gateway

If you are searching for a CoinGate alternative, you are usually deciding one thing: licensed EU gateway that converts crypto and pays your bank, vs checkout that settles straight to a wallet you control. Those are different products.

Quick Answer

Stay on CoinGate if you need EUR/USD/GBP in a bank, MiCA-licensed processing, public cart plugins, Lightning, or refunds from a processor balance.

Look at FinCobra Checkout only if you want hosted invoices that pay your wallet — BTC via xpub, USDT/USDC on documented chains — at Free Start $1,000 then 0.5% PAYG, with no CoinGate-style merchant balance.

CoinGate is the better CoinGate alternative for banked fiat and EU licensing. FinCobra is not a substitute for that job.

Choose CoinGate If

Choose CoinGate if any of these are the actual job:

  • you need EUR, USD, or GBP in a bank
  • you want a MiCA-licensed CASP and Payment Institution processor
  • you need a public WooCommerce plugin or other cart plugins CoinGate already ships
  • you need Lightning
  • you need refunds from a processor balance
  • you want CoinGate to hold a merchant balance, convert, and pay out on a weekly schedule

That is a real product. If that is what you searched for, stay there.

Choose FinCobra If

Choose FinCobra Checkout only if the job is wallet settlement:

  • hosted invoices that pay your wallet
  • Bitcoin through an xpub
  • USDT and USDC on the documented Checkout chains
  • Free Start on the first $1,000 of paid invoice volume, then 0.5% PAYG
  • no CoinGate-style merchant balance
  • you can live without fiat, bank/SEPA payouts, MiCA, Lightning, Shopify, and a public Woo plugin

FinCobra is a non-custodial crypto payment gateway: invoices, a hosted payment page, status, and webhooks, with funds landing in wallets you control. It is not a licensed EU fiat gateway.

If you want self-hosted Bitcoin infrastructure instead of either product, read BTCPay Server Alternative for Small SaaS Teams.

SERP Skips

Skip these when you are deciding:

  • Custodial listicles. Pages that rank "best crypto payment gateway" and treat CoinGate, BitPay, NOWPayments, and wallet checkout as interchangeable. They are not. A gateway that pays a bank is not a checkout that pays your xpub.
  • Stale Commerce. Coinbase Commerce shutdown leftover. A Commerce replacement search is not a CoinGate alternative search, and FinCobra is not a Commerce clone.
  • MiCA as our checkbox. CoinGate holds MiCA CASP and Payment Institution licenses. FinCobra does not. Do not pick FinCobra to "check MiCA." If EU licensing is the requirement, CoinGate is the fit.

Fees, Honestly

Do not call FinCobra cheaper if you need banked fiat.

CoinGate Standard is 1%, with weekly EUR/USD/GBP settlement. On top of that, CoinGate's own 2026-08-26 pricing lists SWIFT withdrawals at 0.50% with a 50 EUR minimum, crypto payouts at 0.50 EUR + 0.5% or 1.5% with conversion, and SEPA free above 50 EUR. That stack is the price of conversion, a merchant balance, and a bank payout. CoinGate also states there is no native Shopify plugin.

FinCobra is Free Start $1,000, then 0.5% PAYG, and settlement is wallets only. There is no SEPA, no bank wire, and no fiat conversion inside FinCobra.

If the buyer pays crypto and you must receive EUR, USD, or GBP at a bank, CoinGate's 1% is the relevant number. Comparing it to 0.5% wallet settlement is a different purchase.

WooCommerce Honesty

CoinGate ships a public WooCommerce plugin. That is a reason to stay on CoinGate if a cart plugin is the requirement.

FinCobra does not have a public WooCommerce plugin. Woo is a private pilot. The public proof is the WooCommerce demo shop, which runs the hosted checkout end to end. There is no public WordPress directory listing to install today, and there is no Shopify plugin.

If you need production Woo, PrestaShop, WHMCS, or another public cart plugin now, use CoinGate.

One-Pass Decision

Use this once:

  1. Do you need EUR, USD, or GBP in a bank, MiCA, public cart plugins, Lightning, or processor refunds? Stay on CoinGate.
  2. Do you want hosted invoices that pay wallets you control, at $1,000 free then 0.5%, with no merchant balance? Look at FinCobra Checkout.
  3. If you answered yes to both, you do not have one product. You have two jobs. Do not force them into one checkout.

See a Live Walkthrough

If step 2 is the job, take a live Checkout walkthrough and read how settlement stays in your own wallets.

The demo is the private WooCommerce pilot, not a public plugin. Use it to watch hosted checkout, then configure BTC via xpub and USDT/USDC on the documented chains in your own account.

FinCobra Checkout is for funds in wallets you control. It is not a CoinGate-style fiat gateway.
